The Create tab contains geographic features that you have created attributes for,
but do not have a geometry associated with them. To create the geometry for a feature,
click the feature in the list to activate it (a pencil icon will appear next to
the feature). When the item is selected two icons will appear in the toolbar above
the map that allow you to either draw geometry directly on the map, or upload from
a GIS "shape file".
1. Upload .shp File - Click the arrow icon in the toolbar for futher instructions
on how to upload a GIS "shape file".
2. Draw Geometry on Map- Click the feature icon (to the right of the upload arrow)
to activate the edit tool, and begin drawing on the map. For all features except
points, you must double-click to finish your shape. If you do not want to save a
drawn shape, click Cancel and draw again. When you are finished drawing your shape,
click Save.
Select the archived (.zip) shape file to upload. The zip file must contain at least
three files: shp, dbf, and shx. The supported projection is NAD_1983_UTM_Zone_12N.
To upload a multi-part polygon (i.e. shapefile containing several polygons with
the same treatment), you must first use the Dissolve tool on the shapfile in GIS,
located in ArcToolbox - Data Management Tools - Generalization - Dissolve.
Uploading a shapefile may take 60 seconds or more.
