Description:
Provide toilet facilities for anglers at the Lower Provo River fishing access areas to maintain sanitary conditions along the Lower Provo River and Hwy 189.
Location:
Provo River shoreline between Deer Creek Reservoir and Bridal Veil Falls.
Project Need
Need For Project:
The Provo River is one of the most heavily fished streams in Utah. These specific areas along the Lower Provo River are heavily used by anglers throughout the year and toilet facilities are needed to ensure the Division meets the needs of our constituents.
Objectives:
Provide toilet facilities at 4 locations on the lower Provo River between Deer Creek Reservoir and Bridal Veil Falls to maintain sanitary angler access points along the river.
Project Location/Timing Justification (Why Here? Why Now?):
Lack of these facilities causes conflict between the Division, counties, anglers and local residents. Lack of sanitary restroom facilities will cause a degradation of water quality and threaten the loss of access in some locations.
Relation To Management Plan:
This project addresses the Divisions strategic management plan including the following: Resource Goal: Expand wildlife populations and conserve sensitive species by protecting and improving wildlife habitat. Objective 1: Protect existing wildlife habitat and improve 500,000 acres of critical habitat and watersheds throughout the state by 2011. Objective 2: Increase fish and game populations to meet Management Plan objectives, and expand quality fishing and hunting opportunities. Constituency Goal: Achieve broad-based support for Division programs and budgets by demonstrating the value of wildlife to all citizens of Utah. Objective 3: Expand programs to recruit and retain young anglers, hunters, and wildlife watchers.

Completion
Start Date:
07/01/2016
End Date:
06/30/2017
FY Implemented:
2017
Final Methods:
All four toilets were serviced regularly and heavily used by anglers and others frequenting the Lower Provo River angler access locations.
Project Narrative:
Anglers use these facilities year round thus we will continue to service these toilets during the winter. There was some discussion about discontinuing this winter service however based on observation and discussing this with angling organizations and anglers on the river they are being used year round and it is very much appreciated and results in anglers being better stewards of the river and helps keep it clean.
Future Management:
The State Parks installed a permanent toilet just below the dam (one of the locations of a portable toilet) so we will reduce the number of toilets in the future to reduce the cost of this project. CRO personnel will continue to monitor and coordinate with United Site Services to assure servicing and proper maintenance of the toilets for angler use.
