Description:
Big Sandwash Reservoir is becoming more popular as a local and even regional fishing destination for several species. There is currently no dock available for anglers or boaters to load and unload gear and people. There is significant risk for boat damage when approaching the launch ramp and this dock would significantly decrease that risk of damage.
Location:
Big Sandwash Reservoir, Duchesne Country. Northwest of Roosevelt near Altonah Utah.
Project Need
Need For Project:
Big Sandwash Reservoir (BSW) has need for a courtesy boat dock on the main launch ramp to prevent boat damage and reduce the risk of injury to people while loading and unloading boats at this location. The water levels at BSW fluctuate through the irrigation season so a movable ramp to accommodate boaters is important at this location.
Objectives:
1) Hire a local welding shop or the welding crew at UBATC to design, and construct a 4' X 35' steal frame movable courtesy dock. 2) Hire a local trucking company to load, transport and unload the completed dock at BSW 3) Hire a local/resident near BSW to move the dock up and down as water fluctuations occur for the first year it is in place. After the first year UDWR can determine how much long term maintenance is needed to operate this ramp.
Project Location/Timing Justification (Why Here? Why Now?):
Boat damage on concrete launch ramp and cobble rock on each side of the ramp. Angler and boater safety when loading and unloading. Angler and boaters access appears to be steadily increasing as the fishery becomes more well known.
Relation To Management Plan:
Directly relates to the Big Sandwash Reservoir Fisheries management plan completed in 2016. This is an angler access goal for improvement at this location.

Compliance:
Work directly with Moon Lake water users association for clearance to install.

Monitoring:
UDWR will monitor the time spent moving this structure and operating it through the first year to evaluate the need for more funding or if hiring a local/resident near the reservoir is a better option.
Partners:
None at this time, but we have been in contact with residents and also anglers who may be interested in donating time or funds to this project.
Future Management:
Falls under the BSW management plan for improvements to angler access.

Will you add a point on the map of the location of the dock. Just use other point feature and in the description you can list what that point feature is. Thanks.

One more thing. When I entered the expenses they didn't match up with what you had listed in the description. The number I entered is the amount that was paid out of this program. I am wondering if some of your expenses got charged to another program. I left your note in there for now so you could see what you listed but it doesn't match up with my number. Will you also enter the DWR in-kind expense amount on the Finance page. Other than that it looks like you are done with this one. Thanks.

Is the amount less then the $6900 that I have on my expense note? I could see how it could be more but not less. I had seasonals code time to that budget for moving the dock up and down until July 1st when we received additional operation and maintenance budget. Regardless it should still be less then the allotted funding for this dock.

Looks like payroll was 585.42. The dock and shipping were $6,379.64. This is more for your information as to what actually got charged to this account. We can't change anything at this point so it is what it is. I am going to delete your itemized note so that it isn't confusing to someone reading it and seeing that it adds up to more than the amount I listed.

Only thing missing is the DWR in-kind amount and then it is ready for me to move it to completed. Thanks.

Completion
Start Date:
08/01/2016
End Date:
12/06/2016
FY Implemented:
2017
Final Methods:
Boat dock constructed and delivered to BSW main boat ramp. Signage placed on ramp according to UDWR specs. Equipment purchased to safely move the dock up and down the boat ramp via truck. Local individual hired to move the dock up and down the ramp beginning mid March until July 1st when NER aquatics facility maintence funds kick in.
Project Narrative:
Same as above. BSW needed a movable dock, we had one built and delivered onsite. Besides ongoing project upkeep and maintence project is complete.
Future Management:
UDWR will monitor and conduct maintence as needed on this structure but will look to acquire additional funding for long term angler amenities throughout the NER.
