Location:
College Station, PA
Project Need
Need For Project:
Whereas riverine restoration training has been relatively easy to come by (Rosgen, Interfluve, USU, etc.), training in flat water habitat improvement techniques have not until recently become available. Utah's reservoirs are experiencing an aging process that diminishes productivity and as such, many fisheries are in a state of decline. Methods to mitigate that process are being utilized in other parts of the country but dissemination of that information is slow to become easily available. Attending training such as this will allow biologist to employ newest practices to enhance aging reservoirs and increase productivity to more acceptable levels.
Objectives:
Send two biologists and an Aquatics Habitat Coordinator to the Reservoir Fisheries Habitat Partnership meeting in Pennsylvania to present project results and gain training in reservoir habitat manipulations and practices designed to enhance spot fisheries.
Project Location/Timing Justification (Why Here? Why Now?):
Failure to address habitat limitations in our reservoir fisheries will ultimately limit the options managers have to provide adequate recreational opportunities to our license buyers. Neglecting the dissemination of relevant project outcomes (which were partially funded by the RFHP) paints DWR in a negative light.
Relation To Management Plan:
Weber River Partnership drainage plan, Utah Lake Management plan
Fire / Fuels:

Water Quality/Quantity:
Training will provide techniques to best use the resources that are currently available.
Compliance:

Methods:
Travel to RFHP meeting in Pennsylvania, attend meeting, learn, employ relevant techniques learned. Present results of Willard Bay Rock Reef project.
Monitoring:
Monitor fisheries via angler satisfaction surveys, fish population trends.
Partners:
BRFAC, Friends of Reservoirs - Rocky Mountain Anglers Chapter
Future Management:
Employ habitat techniques in reservoirs much like we presently address riverine limitations.
