Description:
We are proposing to capture and radio-collar 20 mountain goats on the Wasatch unit.

Location:
This capture is schedule to take place on the Wasatch Mtns. We are anticipating capturing in wilderness areas, and DWR is working with the FS on an MRDG to do so. The purpose of the capture is to build a disease profile, estimate survival rates, and better understand movements of mountain goats on the Wasatch.

Project Need
Need For Project:
On the Wasatch, mountain goat populations are declining, and we have a poor understanding of movements, survival, and disease histories on this herd.
Objectives:
Improve monitoring efforts on the Wasatch unit and obtain a disease profile for bighorn sheep and mountain goats in this area.
Project Location/Timing Justification (Why Here? Why Now?):
Capturing efforts on the Wasatch will need to be done in conjunction with the FS because of wilderness related issues.

It is important to understand limiting factors of mt goat populations.

Methods:
Capture plans will be submitted prior to capture outlining methods to capture mountain goats. In addition, a safety plan will be submitted as well to ensure the safety of personnel and proper handling of wildlife.
Monitoring:
Monitoring will be conducted by DWR employees.
Partners:
We will partner with conservation groups and the Forest Service.
Future Management:
Captures are important to increase monitoring efforts. This information will allow us to make better management decisions moving forward.
