Description:
A twelve foot by twelve foot cement pad with a fish cleaning station with running water, power and grinder will be built at the newly constructed Jordan River Reservoir in Lehi City to coincide with the grand opening and initial stocking of Utah counties newest community fishery. This will accommodate anglers in properly, safely, cleaning and disposing of their fish entrails, d-boning and filleting for consumption.
Location:
Jordan River Reservoir is adjacent to Willow Park located on the west side of Lehi just off of Main street at 2800 West 300 North in Lehi, Utah. The existing park is being surrounded by new development including additional park amenities, soccer fields, playgrounds, homes etc that are all under construction and nearly complete and it is also situated adjacent to the Jordan River Parkway Trail.
Project Need
Need For Project:
Part of educating anglers in stewardship of our natural resources is showing them how to clean and fillet the fish they catch, to impart an ethical value of using what they take and consuming their catch. Jordan River Reservoir was originally developed as an irrigation storage pond for Lehi City. Lehi has also been charged with developing more family recreational opportunities for their residents. Thus they have determined that given the location and surrounding facilities (campground, picnic sites, park, soccer fields, new homes, the Jordan River and the Jordan River Parkway Trail this would be a perfect fit for recreational demands. We need this cleaning station to provide and teach both proper fish cleaning and preparation in our students and public in general and anglers an environmentally sound disposal facility for fish entrails to help keep the area clean. Jordan River Reservoir is adjacent to the Jordan River and close to Utah Lake and other waters. UDWR community fishing programs are designed to help develop new anglers and encourage them to visit other streams and water bodies of Utah and we hope the location and opportunities at Jordan River Reservoir will help meet this goal.
Objectives:
Our larger objective is to teach proper fishing edicate and cleaning habits. Instalation of a fish cleaning station will result in a cleaner environment for visitors to enjoy. It will assist in reducing the bugs, rodents and vermin drawn in by the stinky discarded fish entrails. Part of our goal is to establish a reputation for the new park and reservoir as a facility the surrounding public and visiting public will want to be a part of and participate in fishing close to home. With the establishment of the new Community Fishing Program we anticipate many volunteers to come each week to help teach and be a positive role model for the kids enrolled in the program and help them with their catch.
Project Location/Timing Justification (Why Here? Why Now?):
Trying to prevent improper disposal of fish entrails especially given the location of Jordan River Reservoir and the increased residential development and public use of the recreational opportunities in the area.
Relation To Management Plan:
Installation of a fish cleaning station will help with the goals and objectives of the Community Fishery Plan/Program in introducing youth and adults to fishing close to home in an environment that will have potentially high catch rates. Once skills are learned and developed through the program participants and public in general will be encouraged to try fishing in other more traditional waters throughout the state.
Fire / Fuels:

Water Quality/Quantity:
This will aid in keeping the area and specifically the water and the adjacent Jordan River clean by providing a location for anglers to properly clean and dispose of their fish.
Compliance:
2 PMArchaeology, Not Applicable, Construction of the pond is already complete. NEPA, There is no need to complete the NEPA process.
Methods:
The cleaning station will be placed close to the pond where the public will have easy access. The location will be determined by the proximity of the water and sewer lines and closeness to the pond and parking lot. A twelve foot by twelve foot concrete pad will be built to accommodate a Piranha Series Model 6060 Fish Cleaning Station with the correct sized grinder for the likely catch. It has a simple push button start and an automatic stop mechanism for safety. A metal canopy will be built to cover the cleaning station from rain and snowy weather. Easy hook up to the water, sewer and power for the station is the major factor in choosing this location. The onsite construction, installation, concrete pad and canopy will be built by Lehi City.
Monitoring:
The Fish Cleaning Station will become a facility of Lehi City at Jordan River Reservoir and be placed under the responsibility of Lehi City. All repairs, maintenance and facility upgrades will be approved and directed by the city.
Partners:
UDWR Lehi City Lehi City is very interested in developing more fishing (family recreational opportunities) for their rapidly growing population. They will be partners both financially and by incorporating the Community Fishing Program within their City Recreational Department.
Future Management:
Future Management: Lehi City will oversee the maintenance and care of the new fish cleaning station. It will become an additional facility they clean and service routinely. The construction work and installation will also be performed by Lehi City.

Will you add a point on the map for the location of this project? I noticed you have another fish cleaning station project that also needs a location on the map. Thanks.
