Description:
SFW will purchase pheasants in the amount of $10,000 for release in Millard County for the general pheasant hunt. Birds will also be utilized for the Pahvant Youth Hunt, which will be held on November 9, 2019. Birds will be delivered by 7:00 a.m. on November 9, 2019.

Project Need
Need For Project:
To bolster the R3 efforts via the organized youth pheasant hunt and general hunting season.
Objectives:
To increase the amount of upland game hunters in the state, and to provide an experience that will result in the retention of those hunters.

None
Relation To Management Plan:
Though there is not a current pheasant management plan, there are several workplans throughout the state that mention a goal of increasing upland game hunters statewide.

Compliance:
The birds will be purchased from growers who adhere to strict disease testing guidelines. No wild populations of birds will be threatened by this project.
Methods:
Birds will be purchased by SFW, and the DWR will pick up the birds from one of the approved growers whom which we have a current contract. The SFW and DWR personnel who attend the hunt on November 9 will assume the responsibility of placing the birds throughout the Pahvant WMA before each of the two hunting sessions.

Final Methods:
SFW purchased pheasants needed for the organized youth hunt held at the Pahvant WMA, which transpired on November 9, 2019. This amounted to approximately 655 pheasants. Our local biologist in the area, Lynn Zubeck, distributed the birds for the youth hunt and for the public to hunt accordingly.
Project Narrative:
The youth hunt was a great success, and we appreciate the funds to bolster our R3 efforts.
Future Management:
We hope to continue this project with SFW indefinitely. This has given us the incredible experience of witnessing new hunters harvest their birds, and listening to how they have continued to hunt because of their experience with this youth hunt.
