Description:
Purchase and install a new fish cleaning station to replace old worn out cleaning station.
Location:
At Lakeside Marina, Fish Lake, Fish Lake is located in Sevier County about 40 miles east of Richfield.
Project Need
Need For Project:
There are three fish cleaning stations located at each marina at Fish Lake and they are well used during the summer fishing season. The fish cleaning station at Bowery Haven Marina was replaced last year. The fish cleaning station at Lakeside Marina is over 30 years old and the other one at the Lodge Marina is about 25 years old. They are constantly in need of repair and maintenance work, and when they work, they function very poorly. Fish heads, carcasses and skins cannot be put down the machines because they will plug up the sewer system. The existing grinders do not grind up the fish into small enough pieces. Fish carcasses have to be put into trash cans placed at the fish cleaning stations and then hauled off to be disposed of. It makes a big stinky mess, attracts flies and other animals including bears. The existing stations have had the grinders and other parts replaced and are just being babied along and will soon quit altogether. The fish cleaning stations are a poor service being provided to anglers and other visitors at Fish Lake. The DWR feels that if there were two, well functioning fish cleaning stations located at each end of the lake, then the middle station could be eliminated. Fish Lake needs one more new fish cleaning station installed at Lakeside Marina. Lakeside Resort would be responsible for cleaning, winterization and minor maintenance of the fish cleaning station. A Cooperative Agreement to take care of the fish cleaning station between Lakeside Resort and UDWR will be signed before purchasing a new one.
Objectives:
Purchase and install a new modern fish cleaning station at Lakeside Marina. Provide a public desired facility. Eliminate odors and carcasses that attract animals.
