Description:
We are proposing to capture and GPS collar 28 bison on the Book Cliffs (15), Range Creek (3), and Henry Mountains (10) to collect survival and movement data. Exact numbers may be altered.

Project Need
Need For Project:
Bison movement on the Henry Mountains, Range Creek, and Book Cliffs is of particular concern. Deploying satellite GPS collars on bison on these units will provide us with real time use and movement data to help address potential conflicts with landowners and grazing allotments while also providing survival data.

Management plans call for monitoring populations and implementing methods to reduce conflicts with agricultural uses. This project will provide data to help.

Methods:
Capture plans will be submitted prior to capture outlining methods to capture bison. In addition, a safety plan will be submitted as well to ensure the safety of personnel and proper handling of wildlife.
Monitoring:
Bison will be monitored using satellite GPS collars.
Partners:
This will be a partnership between UDWR and conservation groups.
Future Management:
Captures are important to increase monitoring efforts. This information will allow us to make better management decisions moving forward.

Final Methods:
In FY24, we captured 27 bison (15 on Book Cliffs, 10 on Henry Mtns, 2 on Range Creek).
Project Narrative:
Bison were captured across the state for disease testing, monitoring movements, estimating survival, and determining cause-specific mortality.
Future Management:
Animals survival and movements will be monitored using GPS collars. These data will be used to design hunts and assess their effectiveness.
