Project Need
Need For Project:
As partners continue to create sustainable on the ground projects thru WRI, adjacent to Utah State Parks, public incursions from those parks on the Federal treatment areas continues to become challenging. This project will aid in the protection of the Federally treated areas as well as the Habitat for listed plants and sensitive resources
Objectives:
To provide for watershed protection for the City of Fredonia Culinary water collection. To provide for protection for the Coral Pink Sand Dunes Tiger Beetle To provide for protection for Welsh's Milkweed To provide for protection for newly treated and seeded WRI projects adjacent to Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park.
Project Location/Timing Justification (Why Here? Why Now?):
WRI treatments in and adjacent to the Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park are helping recover watersheds, maintaining sustainable habitats and ecological sites for resource management in crucial mule deer winter range , habitat areas for threatened, species and providing meaningful recreation experiences, balancing these needs with resources expended (seeding , treatment and funding ) creates a balancing act with public users who sometime do not see the need for temporary resource protection
Relation To Management Plan:
BLM KFO RMP 2008, Coral Pink Sand Dunes Tiger Beetle Conservation Strategy and Agreement, Welsh Milkweed Recovery Plan. Zion Unit Mule Deer Management Plan.
Fire / Fuels:
These types of treatments aid in the reduction of hazardous fuels build up adjacent to Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park and its adjoining facilities, compliance by the public and allowing for resource growth and project success and resource protection.
Water Quality/Quantity:
this project has an objective of protecting water quality for the City of Fredonia's drinking water collection east of the park, as well as protecting WRI treatments for adjacent watersheds.t
Compliance:
Compliance would be a function of the Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park especially during high use visor periods, Holidays and hunting seasons where compliance is an issue.
Methods:
Utah State Parks would provide assistance and cost sharing for personnel, vehicles, and public education.
Monitoring:
Utah State Parks would track and monitor visitor use, incursions, via visitor contacts, citations and, cooperative meeting
Partners:
Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park, BLM, USFWS, Kane County, City of Fredonia, UDWR,
