Description:
We are proposing to capture and GPS collar 30 bison on the Book Cliffs to collect movement data with a specific focus on movement of animals in and out of the roadless area.

Project Need
Need For Project:
Bison movements on the Book Cliffs is of particular concern. Deploying satellite GPS collars on bison on these units will provide us with real time use and movement data to help address potential conflicts and improve future hunting strategies. Disease testing is also a priority.
Objectives:
Collar 30 bison to identify movement patterns and improve hunting strategies.

Management plans call for monitoring populations and implementing methods to reduce conflicts with agricultural uses. This project will provide data to help.

Bison will be captured and collared using helicopter darting and/or netgunning.

Monitoring will be done by DWR staff and satellite GPS collars.
