Final Methods
This project included several follow-up treatments on previously treated acres (i.e. lop and scatter treatments, bullhog treatments, harrow treatments) where cheatgrass infestations have occurred. Plateau herbicide was used on 7,102 acres to reduce cheatgrass cover to help address the threats of cheatgrass. A contractor was hired to treat the project area and a helicopter was used to disseminate the herbicide.

Project Narrative
The treatments occurred in the Deadman Bench area, Raven Ridge area, Snake John area (which are located east of Vernal), Chokecherry Springs on Diamond Mountain and Shiner Basin both northeast of Vernal, Utah. This project included several follow-up treatments on previously treated acres (i.e. lop and scatter treatments, bullhog treatments, harrow treatments) where cheatgrass infestations have occurred. Plateau herbicide was used on approximately 7,102 acres to reduce cheatgrass cover to help address the threats of cheatgrass. If left untreated cheatgrass cover will likely increase and out compete more desirable vegetation, as well as increase the likelihood of increasing fire events. The project was implemented on schedule. The 7,102 acres were treated with plateau in the specified project areas using areal spraying via helicopter. There was an initial issue with the airport allowing the pilot to obtain water from the airport to mix the chemicals, but that problem was resolved quickly. The pilot ultimately was allowed to obtain water from the airport.

Future Management
Cheatgrass cover will be monitored and possible retreatment of the areas could occur in the future. The Shiner Basin-McKee Bench portion of the project will be treated again in fall of 2020 to help prep the sight for a seeding in fall of 2021.
