Final Methods
Lop and Scatter of 306 acres. Cut and Pile of 310 acres. both utilizing chainsaws. Pinebrook: Lop and scatter, burn piles Riparian restoration: we completed 25 BDAs in Parley's Creek (Phase 2) following low-tech, process-based restoration methods. Untreated wood fence posts were driven into the streambed 12-24" apart, and used to anchor fill material (native vegetation, rocks, mud) to mimic beaver activity. BDAs were spaced 10-30m apart and built by volunteers, project partners, and contractors. Restoration monitoring: Sageland Collaborative carried out riparian habitat monitoring (RSRA protocol) at Parley's Creek, Toll Canyon, McLeod Creek, and Lamb's Canyon. We assessed the following sites for potential improvements in amphibian habitat at McLeod Creek, Lamb's Canyon, Parley's Creek, and Toll Canyon in 2023. Reports attached for each site.

Project Narrative
Lop and scatter was started on 10/27/23 and was completed on 11/7/23. Cut and pile was started on 09/28/23 but was snowed out and resume in the spring of 24. Pinebrook: Project 1: 1.3 acres of HOA common space comprised largely of deciduous brush and Gambel oak was successfully cut and piled for future burning. Project 2: Piles on approximately 83 acres of HOA common space were successfully burned. Two thirds of the acreage was comprised of mixed conifer while the remaining third was largely Gambel oak. Project 3: Approximately 17 acres of HOA common space containing previously burned piles was reseeded along trails with native grasses and forbs, with an intent to reestablish appropriate plants, inhibit invasive species, and improve the post-treatment aesthetic. Project 4: Developed, promoted, and implemented the Pinebrook Fire-adapted Landscapes and Safe Homes (FLASH) Program where 22 homeowners applied for grant funds in our reimbursement program performing work on their properties, of which 19 were eligible for and received a reimbursement for a portion of their expenses. This resulted in more than 42 parcel acres being worked to manage and eliminate fire fuel Summit County: Provided Pinebrook PM assistance Parley Creek Phase 2 BDA: Sageland designed & completed permit applications, procured fence posts, recruited volunteers to complete structures and provided guidance to SLCDPU crews on fence posts install & design/maintenance specifications. Volunteer crew included community members and several dedicated hunters from 9/21-23, 2023. We spent one day at Lamb's Canyon with volunteers adding fill and replacing fence posts for BDAs built in 2020 (8/18/2023).

Future Management
An overstory treatment of the cut and pile areas will be implemented once this years piles are burned to make room for the next entry. Pinebrook:The open-space worked as part of this project will require future maintenance/management and the responsible homeowners associations (PMA and PHOA) will oversee these future efforts. Plans are being formulated by the homeowner association Fire Safety Committee for additional work of mixed-conifer treatments along ridgelines and within the WUI, work to address the aspen decline within Pinebrook, treatment of Gambel oak, and work on neighboring properties Riparian restoration: Sageland & SLCDPU collaborated to plan additional BDAs and maintenance of existing structures in Parley's Creek. Additional maintenance planned for Toll Canyon BDAS and McLeod Creek BDAs in FY25. Sageland Collaborative & other partners are committed to monitoring the site to ensure the restoration sites continue to improve over time. Beaver management is also a consideration, and project partners will work with UDWR to implement living with beaver structures may be needed at some sites in the future (i.e. beaver deceivers, pond levelers, tree protections) as requested by landowners.
