Final Methods
In the summer of 2023, we installed pre-cast cement irrigation boxes for irrigating fields to grow better grasses for pheasants on the Utah Lake Wetland Preserve. We planted pheasant food plots in April of 2024 along the south end of Utah Lake.

Project Narrative
Upland game hunting is becoming increasingly popular in Utah. The pheasant release program has been very successful and it is a great way to recruit new hunters. Upland game hunting is much easier to learn and is far less of a time and financial commitment than big game hunting is. Therefore it is much easier to recruit new hunters into the sport. As big game tags become harder and harder to draw; upland game hunting also provides a consistent hunting opportunity and greater harvest success which will help retain hunters. With all of this in mind, it demonstrates the necessity to invest in improving and increasing upland game hunting opportunities. This project was designed to improve habitat that will help build upland game populations. This project was also designed to increase and improve upland game hunting opportunities nearer to the human population centers and improve the quality of those hunting opportunities.

Future Management
This will be a multi-phase project. We will continue to monitor guzzler use with motion sensor cameras to see how they are being used and determine the success of plantings.
